Features & Compatibility

Bring the presence of the Bolivian Torch into your home with these Trichocereus bridgesii (also known as Echinopsis lageniformis) seeds. Native to Bolivia, this impressive cactus grows naturally in the Andes Mountains at elevations of around 3,000 meters. In the wild, the Bolivian Torch can reach heights of up to 5 meters.

Its color ranges from light green to a subtle grey-blue tone. Like other San Pedro relatives, this species is known for containing the psychoactive alkaloid mescaline (3,4,5-trimethoxyphenethylamine). The Bolivian Torch is considered a strong and resilient cactus variety, making it popular among collectors and growers of mescaline-containing cacti.

Growing Instructions

For best results, use a propagator or small indoor greenhouse.

Fill small plastic pots (approximately 5 cm) with sterilized soil. Place the seeds on top of the soil and gently press them down without covering them deeply. Stand the pots in a shallow layer of boiled water and wait until the surface of the soil becomes moist. Remove the pots from the water and cover them with plastic wrap to maintain humidity.

The ideal temperature during germination is between 18°C and 23°C. Within several days to a few weeks, small green seedlings should begin to appear.

After approximately four weeks, you can begin the hardening process. Make two small holes in the plastic wrap, and gradually increase ventilation every other day. Once the climate inside the covering matches the outside environment, the plastic can be fully removed.

Water with boiled water or rainwater. Keep the soil slightly moist, but avoid overwatering. Do not allow the seedlings to dry out completely. After about one year, the young cacti may be repotted. Be extremely careful with the delicate taproot.

If the cacti turn yellow, they require more light. If they begin to turn reddish, reduce watering slightly.
